Result: SN44, Score, partners with SN13’s Data Universe
SN13 is now powering sports analytics subnet SN44, Score - providing the real-time data it needs to transform sports stats for good.
Team sport is more than just a game. It’s a highly complex system, and it’s this complexity that absorbs millions of fans across the globe, year after year. Yet even though sports analytics has improved, for a multi-billion dollar sport it still lags behind other sectors of similar value.
SN44, Score, shows what’s now possible. Focusing on football (the soccer kind), the world’s most popular sport, SN44 convenes miners to run models annotating football video footage at high speed and with high accuracy. This data is fed into the DKING AI agent, which then predicts the match outcomes - with startling precision. ‘Last night, we achieved 100% accuracy - meaning we got the result correct in every game we monitored,’ says Nigel Grant, co-founder. It’s a one-off, but given that SN44 averages around 70% accuracy, their approach is getting results.
Through a novel lightweight validation approach, SN44 enables rapid, cost-effective processing of complex visual data at scale - a breakthrough for industries dependent on real-time video analysis. Yet achieving this allows SN44 to solve a much deeper problem, one that unlocks previously inaccessible insights.
‘Basically, the problem is: how do you understand movements?’ says co-founder Max Sebti. ‘This is the real problem. How do you score movement? This is it. This is also why we named ourselves Score, because we knew we would need to score something and like we were trying to find the right problem. But it took these two moments to realize that the thing you want to score is movement and so you want to score positions.’
Data Universe, the suite of data scraping and sentiment tracking tools built on SN13, is bringing a new dimension to Score’s forecasting. By enriching SN44’s movement monitoring with real-time sentiment analysis, Score can correlate in-game metrics with fan reactions from the world of football, placing match statistics in a wider context. This opens a whole range of new uses for clubs and sports channels alike. Perhaps the most important is the most talked about and unpredictable factor in all sport: psychology. ‘We believe that team psychology is under-researched - and that it could actually be a derivative of fan sentiment, media pressure, and live events on the pitch. You can't just correlate player and team movement with financial indicators. Another parameter has to be quantified - psychology - and sentiment analysis via SN13’s Data Universe data is critical to achieving this’.
SN44 believe that giving clubs, media outlets, and fans unprecedented insight into player dynamics can usher in a new era of data-driven engagement. Yet today’s sport is beset by a problem that Bittensor was born to solve: poor incentives. ‘Despite what you're led to believe, the stats produced and shared in the media are mostly irrelevant,’ Nigel argues. ‘Clearly, they can produce a lot more than that. But the media seem to buy into this irrelevance, because the incentive is to keep churning out familiar old content. They need to keep their TV channels, social feeds, and all their other touchpoints ‘always on’, anything to keep it active.’
Co-founder and CTO Tim Kalic agrees. ‘Football is the biggest sports market on the planet - we're talking hundreds of billions of dollars - and yet its approach to data is completely backward.’
Merging SN13’s refined data with SN44’s proprietary machine-learning models generates more contextual insights, which can encourage migration away from blunt, generic stats like possession. In turn, these can provide different forms of value across the sport. It can help pinpoint where to improve a training regime, or reveal why a specific player’s movement spikes midfield control.
‘This is about far more than predicting results,’ says Max. ‘Every dribble, pass, or off-the-ball run reveals patterns that managers can leverage in training sessions, clubs can use to scout emerging talent, and broadcasters can turn into richer storylines for fans.’
By pooling their complementary strengths, SN13 and SN44 have created a mutually beneficial partnership that not only addresses the immediate demand for accurate sports predictions, but also highlights the capacity of Bittensor subnets to innovate far beyond traditional use cases. From scouting and training to fan engagement and broadcasting, the trio aims to exemplify what can be accomplished when high-quality data meets cutting-edge analytics. Nigel sums it up when he says: ‘We just believe it can be so much better.’
